GREETINGS TO ALL Cass Tech students, parents, faculty, staff, community partners and alumni! I am so excited to officially welcome you to the 2016-2017 school year. Cass Technical High School is #1, Second-to-None for a reason.
At Cass, we Create Academic Success Stories, one scholar at a time. We have outstanding students that come from all over the metropolitan Detroit area whose scholastic abilities have garnered top honors. We have dynamic teachers with diverse portfolios, many of whom are Cass grads, which incorporate best practices while integrating the latest technologies into their classrooms. We have an energetic administrative team with a wealth of experience that unwaveringly sustain and maintain the integrity of our curriculums. We have exceptional members of our support staff that are committed to ensuring that our school operates smoothly and efficiently. We have wonderful parental support in addition to our hardworking Cass Association and Title I Parent groups. We have remarkable community partners and leaders among top businesses, universities/colleges, hospitals, and governmental offices that provide our students with internships, job opportunities, scholarships and admissions. Ask any Cass Tech alumni what catapulted them in their careers; they will proudly say it was their education at Cass Technical High School that afforded them the wherewithal to excel in their fields of study.
As my fifth year as Principal, I am proud to say that Cass Technical High School is once again ranked in the top 5% of schools within the State of Michigan. We received the “Best High School” bronze medal ranking by U.S. News and World Report. We surpassed last year’s total in scholarship dollars by reaching an unprecedented $45 million. We continually excel and surpass levels on state and college assessments, have the highest percentage of college graduates (98%), and offer more programs than any other high school. We are the first high school in the city of Detroit to become an International Baccalaureate World School. Also, we are the five-time recipient of the Steve Harvey, Best High School Award.
We look forward to another outstanding year in the way of partnerships. The Ilitch family has committed to an exciting internship program specifically designed for our students to work in the family’s business network. The Parade Co. will create an internship with our business, performing and visual arts students. Through a new multi-media partnership with Specs Howard, Channel 2’s Alex Kimbrough and Channel 4’s Doreatha Maxey, our students will take advantage of hands-on training in broadcasting, film, audio and video recording/production. The University of Michigan’s Doctors of Tomorrow Program and Chrysler Corporation have signed on for another year to provide paid internships for our students and job placement in their respective industries. We became partners with Pretty Brown Girls, an extraordinary program geared towards helping our students with social and self-esteem issues while incorporating core academic skills. It is my vision to partner with top attorneys, judges, court administrators and officers to introduce a comprehensive law program for students interested in careers within the judicial system. These are just a small sampling of the many partners and programs that we offer at Cass Tech.
I cannot express how proud I am of our achievements and look forward to another exciting school year together. Remember, Cass Tech #1, Second to None!
